What we Believe

Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church, as a member of the Presbyterian Church in America, is a biblical church. We believe the Bible is God’s Word and as such it is our ultimate authority in all things to which it speaks.

We also believe that the best way to accurately understand the Bible is through studying it in the community of the church. We are in this sense creedal. This means is that we adhere to an historical creed as representing the system of doctrine taught in Scripture. A Creed reflects interpretation of Scripture which have stood the test and scrutiny of time. The particular creed to which we adhere is the Westminster Confession of Faith.

A Synopsis of Our Beliefs . . .

  • The Bible is the actual Word of God, and as such is the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
  • There is one God, eternal and self-existing in three persons (Father, Son and oly Spirit) who are to be equally loved, honored, and adored.
  • God has created everything that there is of His own free will. He is both above all things and intimately involved in all things, working them all together for His own glory.
  • All people are guilty of treason against God and unable to save themselves.
  • God rules as King over all creation and it is only by His mercy that He has chosen people to redeem.
  • God redeems His people by bringing them to faith in Christ as Savior by the Word of God. Those whom He redeems receive new life and can never lose it.
  • We are made right with God by faith in Christ alone not by our own obedience or anything else.
  • The goal of salvation in the life of the Christian is God’s own glory being made manifest through our increasing holiness, good works, and service.
  • At death the Christian’s soul passes immediately into the presence of God and the unbeliever’s soul is eternally separated from God and awaits final condemnation at the return of Christ.
  • Baptism is a sign of God’s covenant promises and is properly administered to both children of believers in their infancy and to those who come to trust in Christ as adults.
  • Jesus Christ will return to earth, visibly and bodily, at a time when He is not expected, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.
  • The Gospel of God’s salvation in Jesus Christ must be made known to all the world as a witness before Jesus Christ returns.
